The Mothers: Morgan & Daughter Celadon

Morgan is the mother who helped me begin The Mothers series.  She is my sister-in-law and good friend.  This is the second painting I have done of her.  The first was of her sitting in this same room but she was about 8 months pregnant and her two dogs were at her side.  It was such a different reality from then.  The comparison of the two shows how quickly things can change in a little amount of time.  In this piece, Morgan is sitting in her living room playing with her daughter, Celadon in Central Phoenix.  I started this painting from life.  It is the easiest way for me to really capture the feeling of a moment.  Each piece I create has a story behind it because I love that deep connection with the work I do and the people I work with. I started this piece with a loose underpainting that helps keep the movement and fluidity of the piece going throughout.  Pink and purple tones were selected to captivate the calm and loving energy around Morgan, Celadon throughout their home.
